The client for this project combined several parcels of property in Westport, CT to create a large 6-acre lot. The original idea behind the house was to develop a classic country home. The finished design is a house of approximately 17,000 s.f. with natural materials and dark colors utilized to help visualize a certain scale and proportion. The interior of the house unfolds as you travel through the home. The formal rooms evolve into informal living spaces to create a comfortable living environment that leads to a sizeable rear yard. A walk-out lower floor, together with guest rooms and storage, is accessible by an elevator to the third floor, making this an easily accessible house. Architect Sir Edwin Lutyens (1869-1944) was the famous inspiration for this project.
