Our clients were moving from overseas and fell in love with a remote woodland property on a narrow lake offering views of a waterfall and island. We began discussing a renovation of the existing home, but RAC felt it was best to design a new home on an alternate piece of the lot with plenty of manicured terracing. The clients were drawn to modern architectural elements such as black windows, stucco siding, metal roofs and clean interior layouts – resulted in a truly beautiful design.
It’s tempting to jump on trends when it comes to features like furniture and light fixtures, but design decisions are daunting when it comes to fixed items like windows, roofing and siding. Highly realistic computer renderings allow clients to digest the homes’ features in the third dimension and make the best decisions. Black steel windows have recently gained popularity in New England, so these renderings allowed the client to compare the latest trend to a more traditional look of white windows to make informed design decisions. What might have seemed a bold choice actually allowed the home to blend more naturally with its heavily wooded lot, particularly during twilight hours.
