Modern Shippan Home
Stamford, CT
This project presented a fascinating challenge for both the homeowners and the architect. The couple inherited a traditional Cape-style house on the water on Shippan Point in Stamford, CT. They sought a Fairfield County architect who could renovate the house in a modernist style. In the first meeting, Robert Cardello proposed removing the main central fireplace, which dramatically opened up the plan. Something that was never considered earlier, but solved the problem. A bridge concept was also developed to connect the north and south wings of the house between the primary suite and children's bedrooms. The front maintains its traditional Cape Cod roots while the back exposes the aesthetics of a modern home design. The interiors feature a range of finishes that reflect the overall simple and modern feel of the project.
