The owners of this Greenwich property valued both symmetry and shingle-style architecture. They wanted the house to be welcoming and not too imposing, despite its close proximity to the road. To achieve this, we designed a whimsical front entry with an overhead balcony and brought the rooflines down to the first floor, creating a human scale to this home. We had to get creative with the floor plan to fit everything into the limited lot area and accommodate the double frontage. Although the first and second floor layouts are modest, the house feels substantial thanks to its tall front elevation and large covered outdoor entertaining space. We particularly love the symmetrical tower that houses the staircase, bringing natural light into the home and providing access to the finished lower level. Overall, this house strikes a perfect balance between style, functionality, and charm.
